At a high-level international conference on glacier preservation, the Hanns Seidel Foundation Korea and regional partners spotlighted the urgent climate threats facing glacier-fed ecosystems and migratory birds. The event in Dushanbe underscored the need for cross-border cooperation to protect vital wetlands along the Central Asian Flyway.

As part of a multi-day trip, stops were made at the Forum of Contemporary History in Leipzig, the German-German Museum in Mödlareuth, and the District Office in Hof. The program focused on Germany’s divided past and strengthening the partnership with Yeoncheon County in South Korea’s Gyeonggi Province. The visit included a lecture on the Euregio Egrensis cross-border project and an exchange with Hartmut Koschyk, former Parliamentary State Secretary and past President of the German-Korean Society.

The Hanns Seidel Foundation has been organizing study tours on German reunification for many years. Even 35 years later, interest from Korea remains undiminished. A delegation from Gyeonggi Province, led by Kim Young-Soo, is currently visiting Germany. In Berlin, the group met with the Korean ambassador and received lectures on reunification. A highlight was the visit to the Stasi Archives, which commemorates the dark past of the GDR.

RCE Tongyeong celebrates its 20th anniversary and the 10th anniversary of Sejahtera Forest with the 2025 ESD International Forum, joined by the Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF) delegations from Korea, China, and Mongolia.

In the new DPRK Journal, a report on the Rason region shows how important North Korea's wetlands are for global species conservation. Over 300 bird species and rich biodiversity make the reserve a key area for the conservation of biological diversity.

From 28 to 30 April 2025, Busan hosted the 10th Our Ocean Conference, an international forum that brought together more than 2,000 delegates from over 100 countries to discuss the sustainable future of the oceans, maritime economics and ecology.

On 23 April, the Soongsil Institute for Peace and Unification invited Dr Bernhard Seliger, representative of the Hanns Seidel Foundation Korea, to give a lecture entitled ‘Current developments in North Korea and opportunities for EU-North Korea cooperation’.
