Yellow Sea Large Marine Ecosystem

The Yellow Sea Large Marine Ecosystem (YSLME) Project builds upon regional cooperation for sustainable use of the Yellow Sea put in place by PR China and the Republic of Korea, supported by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPR Korea), the Yellow Sea Partnership and the Global Environment Facility.

The opening ceremony of the workshop

From 11th to 13th July 2017 YSLME held inception workshop in Seoul to share the information and strengthen the networking. Especially, the Activity of the Regional Working Group on Governance will advise on the means and approaches for full participation of DPRK for participatory implementation of YSLME project and Strategic Action Programme. After the inception workshop YSLME and NEAMPAN (North-East Asian Marine Protected Area Network) held the international workshop on Marine Protected Areas in YSLME and North-East Asia to promote subregional cooperation on marine environment on 14th July in Ganghwa Island, Republic of Korea.

Mr. Jae-Sang Yoon, President of Ganghwa County Assembly gave a welcome speech and invited experts did presentation. After the presentation the participants including government officials, experts, local stakeholders, NGOs, and international organizations discussed further cooperation for marine environment protection and shared their experiences.

Dr. Hyun-Ah Choi, Senior Researcher of Hanns Seidel Foundation Korea participated the workshop and shared information for future cooperation.
