Wetlands of Rason Photobook

The Ministry of Land and Environmental Protection (MoLEP) in DPRK has published the photobook about ‘Wetlands of Rason.’ This book contains photos of migratory birds, biodiversity and wetland ecosystem of Rason. Dr. Bernhard Seliger, representative of HSF Korea contributed to the publication.

‘The more we love and protect the nature, the more valuable things we get from the nature, the home of people’s living and the ground for providing them with good living conditions.’

 

Migratory birds and the wetlands are very important indicators of environmental change. Therefore, the movement to project wetlands and migratory birds is highly needed. Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF) Korea is committed and supported, together with the local partner in both Korea, to raise awareness and encourage public participation to improve wetlands and migratory birds site.

 

The Rason Migratory Birds Reserves in the DPRK is Ramsar designated site with biological diversity of international importance, especially regarding waterbirds.   A large area facing the Korean East Sea at the Tuman River Estuary, which consists of various types of wetlands such as lakes and rice fields. It offers not only beautiful landscapes but also ideal habitats for animals and birds which lakes with clear water, large and small bays and islands, and peaceful and dense forests, making it attractive to more than 50,000 water birds of 250 different species, including endangered ones.

 

In 2020, The Ministry of Land and Environmental Protection (MoLEP) in DPRK has published the photobook about ‘Wetlands of Rason.’ This book contains photos of migratory birds, biodiversity, and the wetland ecosystem of Rason. Not only Rason migratory bird reserve but also, they have information of Alsom seabird reserve and Uam Northern Fur Seal Reserve. These efforts to preserve the wetlands and biodiversity should be continued.
