Meetings in April

In April the HSS Korea attended several meetings with partners

DMZ Borderscape under 2022 Western Social Science Association Annual Conference

Dr. Hyun-Ah Choi, Senior Researcher and Environmental Project Manager at HSF Korea, took part in the 2022 Western Social Science Association Annual Conference that was hosted online on April 2. The participants come from different fields of study such as environmental sciences, history, and literature. They had a look at the recent changes in the DMZ region against the background of their respective studies. Dr. Choi suggested the possibility of ecological cooperation in the DMZ area, including the Han River Estuary neutral area.

 

Meeting between the HSF Korea and the ICLEI East Asia Secretariat (EAS)

To share recent progress on projects and activities related to North Korea, Ms. Anja Molek, Project Assistant at the HSF Korea, and Ms. Yaejee Kim, Program Officer at the ICLEI East Asia Secretariat (EAS), met virtually on 6 April. Both organizations decided to cooperate more closely in the future and combine both organizations’ expertise and experiences to further advance sustainable development in North Korea.

Bam Seom (islet) and Ramsar site field trip and meeting of environmental experts

Both, Bam Seom (islet) and Ramsar sites were designated as Ecosystem and Landscape Regions for Conservation by the Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) many years ago, due to that, they remained untouched by humans. On April 13, Dr. Hyun-Ah Choi, Senior Researcher and Environmental Project Manager at HSF Korea met with a team of the East Asian - Australasian Flyway Partnership (EAAFP) and officers of SMG to visit Bam Seom.

On April 26, Dr. Choi met the EAAFP again and the Ramsar Regional Center - East Asia, Korea Environment Institute, Incheon Institute, Eco Horizon Institute, and National Migratory Birds Center. Together, they shared ideas for environmental cooperation on the Korean Peninsula and the current ongoing plan regarding SDGs 14 and 15, Life Below Water, and Life on Land.
