Meetings in June

In June, Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF) Korea had meaningful meetings with various partner organizations.

The joint conference on the Yoon government’s North Korea policy and inner border cooperation.

The conference co-organized by KINU, Kookmin University, and Jeonbuk National University to discuss the new government’s policy, especially Green Détente, in forest and water, was held on 6 June. The participants reviewed the green cooperation on the Korean Peninsula. Dr. Hyun-Ah Choi, Senior researcher at HSF Korea also participated in the conference and discussed inner border cooperation.

 

Oxford Dialogue 2022 annual guest speaker event

Oxford Dialogue is an international interdisciplinary association discussing annually topics of importance for politics, society, and culture. This year, Dr. Bernhard Seliger, representative of Hanns Seidel Foundation Korea, gave an online lecture on international cooperation for climate change in North Korea as a guest speaker. The interdisciplinary and international nature of the meeting led to many and varied questions and discussions.

 

Meeting with Korea Forest Service

On 13 June, Dr. Sun Keun Lee, Korea Forest Service, visited Hanns Seidel Foundation Korea to discuss cooperation in forestry on the Korean Peninsula. Dr. Lee also shared the seminar plan with experts regarding forest diseases and pests on the border between the two Koreas.

Expert Seminar on Forest Disease and Pest Research at the Inter-Korean Border Region

On 14 June, the experts' group meeting took place at Cheorwon inter-Korean forest cooperation center regarding forest pest control on the inner border between the two Koreas. Dr. Hyun-Ah Choi, senior researcher at Hanns Seidel Foundation Korea also attended the meeting and shared the information.

 

Joint Conference on Political Communication in Korea and Germany

On 17 June, Dr. Bernhard Seliger, representative of HSF Korea, and Mr. Young-Soo Kim, project coordinator at HSF Korea, took part in a joint conference that issued political communication in both, Korea and Germany.

 

Visit from Melbourne University

On 20 June, Jasmine Barrett from the University of Melbourne visited HSF Korea. During the meeting, Dr. Bernhard Seliger and Jasmine Barrett had a discussion on the development of the Korean Peninsula and the chances for humanitarian cooperation with North Korea.

 

Meeting with participants of the Summer School program

On 22 June, HSF Korea had a meeting with Sung Joon Park of the People Power Party and In Joon Choi of the Democratic Party. HSF Korea offers a summer school for international young politicians on the Social Market Economy, the signature German economic model. This year, these two young men will participate in summer school.

 

• 2022 Korean Public Administration Summer Conference and Annual KAPA International Conference

On 23 June, this conference took place in Yeosu Expo Convention Center. The theme was Green, Digital, COVID-19: Rethinking Public Administration in an Era of the Great Transformation. Dr. Hyun-Ah Choi, senior researcher at HSF Korea also participated in the session and discussed challenges facing inter-Korean cooperation with experts including Dr. Jiho Ahn at Goyang Research Institute.

 

Cooperation between Hanns Seidel Foundation and KINU

On 24 June, Dr. Dong-ho Han, Director of Planning and Coordination, and Ms. Hyun-Woo Noh, researcher, visited our office to discuss the new directions of research on inter-Korean relations and unification as well as joint projects between KINU and HSF Korea. Both sides agreed that in particular real North-South exchanges instead of great plans were the only way to forward the idea of the unity of the Korean people.

 

Cooperation with K-water

On 24 June, Dr. Yongdeok Cho and Dr. Kiyoung Park at the Global cooperation department, K-Water visited HSF Korea to discuss international environmental cooperation, including green new deal issues. K-Water is one of the partner organizations in the environmental field on the Korean Peninsula and Asia region. Dr. Bernhard Seliger explained HSF’s work and shared some results of its environmental projects. The participants agreed to cooperate more closely and exchange.
