With the outbreak of coronavirus in December 2019, North Korea quickly took radical measures to safeguard the country's health. The country first halted all air and rail traffic and the entry of cars and trucks from China and later from Russia. Moreover, the country is completely sealed off and isolated from the outside world. This also includes trade, and only essential supplies of goods, such as medical aid, are imported by special agreement. This handling of the pandemic and the sanctions against North Korea have serious consequences for the country's economy.
These effects were discussed with leading experts at the virtual round table of NCNK on May 21st 2020, which brings together academics, experts and practitioners of aid to the DPRK. Dr. Bernhard Seliger, representative of HSF Korea, was also invited. The event was moderated by Daniel Wertz from NCNK.
