Suggestions for Inter-Korean Cooperation

In preparation for future improvement in inter-Korean relations, HSF Korea office promoted a conference to find ways to cooperate between the two Koreas on June 2 to discuss the ongoing cooperation projects with North Korea in agriculture, forestry and water resources.

It was the first offline meeting since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, and some organisations and foundations interested in or related to inter-Korean cooperation attended this event

The conference began with an opening speech by Dr. Bernhard Seliger, the representative of HSF Korea office. In his opening speech, he explained the inter-Korean relations in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the future directions of the inter-Korean cooperation. He also suggested people-centred projects which would not harm the environment referring to the German case in mid-1960s as an example. Finally, he finished his opening speech by mentioning the power of the slow diffusion of knowledge from academy, tourism, family and schools and trust through hundreds of thousands of meetings in Cold War Europe.

Dr. Choi from HSF Korea office led the conference and five presenters, including herself, spoke about the inter-Korean cooperation. All the presenters shared their experiences and opinions on the current status of North Korean projects in various fields like agriculture, as well as the directions and tasks of future cooperation. After the presentations, discussions were held, and the meeting ended with a Q&A session.
