Invitation
Reform of the Electoral System

Since 1956, the Korean Association of International Studies (KAIS) promotes research and education related to international relations. Since 1987 HSF Korea is active on the Korean Peninsula to promote peace, democracy, and development, and to share German experiences, as well as to learn from Korea and the mutual exchange. In order to analyze the electoral system, the impact of reforms, and the cases in South Korea and Germany, KAIS and Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF) in Korea are organizing a conference on “The Reform of the Electoral System and Its Political Consequences: From German Experiences to Its Implications for Korea”.

Among others, speakers will be Dr. Bernhard Seliger, Resident Representative of HSF Korea, as well as Dr. Ralph Wrobel, Professor at the Westsaxon University of Applied Sciences and Dong-A University. Hartmut Koschyk, German Parliamentarian from 1990 to 2017 will give a remote keynote speech.

Dr. Seliger will speak about “Stability in government in Germany and the electoral process”. Dr. Wrobel will address a very recent dispute in Germany. He focuses on the example of the election of prime minister of the state of Thuringia in 2020 and raises the question if Germany´s democracy is in crisis. The first part will be in Korean only, the second part in Korean and German.

The event will take place at Lotte City Hotel Myeongdong on Friday, 12 June 2020. If you are interested in the event and want to take part, please contact HSF Korea office for registration (Ms. Lee Soojin, soojin@hss.or.kr, 02-790-5346).

Please note that pre-registration is required. Due to the Corona epidemic seating is limited to keep distance and hygiene measures need to be followed. Wearing a mask is mandatory and hand sanitizer will be provided.
