Northeast Asia International Workshop on Water and Energy

On October 23, 2019, at the Far Eastern Federal University in Vladivostok a workshop on water and energy was co-organized by the School of Regional and International Studies as well as Hanns-Seidel-Foundation Korea.

 

Water and energy are among the most pressing problems of mankind, and climate change and population growth as well as deforestation and pollution are among the causes for problems with clean water supply.

Participants of the workshop came from Russia, the Republic of Korea, Germany and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. The workshop was opened by Evgeny Pustovoit, Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies – School of Regional and International Studies. Researchers from South Korea presented on water issues and water management in South Korea. Particular interest found the presentation on biochar and low-carbon technologies from Prof. Dr. Olga Nesterova of FEFU. The Academy of Health Sciences of DPRK presented research into clean water and water sources in the country.  In the discussion, scientists searched for areas of new cooperation. The seminar was the second of this kind and is based upon a cooperation of Prof. Artyom Lukin at FEFU and Hanns-Seidel-Foundation Korea. Both sides agreed to cooperate also in the future.
