On 19 May 2020 Mr Wonjung Lee, General director of Hananuri and Dr Martin Cho, Executive director of the Academy of Northeast Asian Studies, Hananuri, visited the office of HSF Korea to discuss their ongoing projects and possibilities for future cooperation related to activities on the Korean Peninsula, and particularly in Rason.

Hananuri is a non-governmental organisation established in 2007. Hananuri has projects on the Korean Peninsula with the goal of helping small-scale North Korean communities to become self-reliant and to exchange social culture between North and South Korea. Their variety of projects includes the independent village project in Rason since 2017. Dr Seliger explained HSF’s work, focused on the bird and biodiversity surveys the HSF in Rason, where since 2018 a Ramsar site was designated around the lagoon lakes in the Tumen river estuary to protect biodiversity and wildlife.

These overlapping projects and interests make for a great base of a cooperation between the two organizations. Both sides agreed to cooperate in the future.
