North Korea and Experiences of East Asian Economic Transition Countries

On the 20th September 2019 the Korea Economic Association and Korea University organized an international conference on North Korea and Experience of East Asian Economic Transition Countries. Dr Hyun-Ah Choi, Senior researcher of Hanns Seidel Foundation Korea attended the conference as an invited expert.

The conference was focused on lessons for North Korea in terms of economy and energy. The experts from Russia, Vietnam, China, Lao PDR, Cambodia and South Korea shared their experiences of political and economic transition. The experts also discussed about the kind of transition, opportunities and challenges under the current condition

At the conference the book “North Korea’s Economy under Kim Jong Un” was published. In this the paper “The Effects of Deforestation in North Korea and Measures for Restoration” was co-published by Dr. Choi of the HSF. The other authors to work on the paper were Lee Woo-kyun, Professor for Environmental Science & Ecological Engineering at Korea University, and Lee Seul-gi also from Korea Universities Department of Environmental Science & Ecological Engineering.
