Joint Research Projects - Protecting Bird Species on the Korean Peninsula

Every year Hanns Seidel Foundation Korea carries out several nature conservation projects and excursions with different partners on the Korean peninsula. To give interested parties an overview of the latest activities, HSF Korea published a new flyer in August 2019 with information about research projects carried out in cooperation with the city of Gimpo.

Flora and fauna have always existed independently of humans and cannot be restricted by national borders. Every year thousands of migratory birds cross the demilitarized zone between North and South Korea. The island of Yudo, which lies in the Han River border region, is an essential habitat for rare bird species and the protection of the island is central to ensuring biodiversity.

To make environmental protection projects more efficient, the Hanns Seidel Foundation, in cooperation with Gimpo City, has documented and evaluated the bird populations in several studies from November 2018 to April 2019. The aim is to develop further projects in the future to protect nature and thus contribute to the conservation of species diversity.
