2019 German Political Foundations

On November the 27th the “2019 German Political Foundations Joint Workshop – sustainable Inter-Korean Reconciliation and Cooperation” was held at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Seoul, Republic of Korea.

The workshop was co-hosted by the three German Political Foundations the Konrad-Adenauer Foundation, the Friedrich-Naumann-Foundation and the Hanns-Seidel-Foundation. Each foundation focuses on different main topics when implementing projects in the ROK and the DPRK, this workshop gave the attendees the possibility to understand the role of each Foundation better.

Dr. Hye-Kyung Lee, the Associate Researcher of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation acted as a moderator of the opening ceremony, in which Mr. Ho-Suh, the Vice Minister of Unification, and Mr. Sang Min Lee, the President of the Korean-German Parliamentarians’ Friendship Association gave their opening remarks. This was followed by the Keynote speech of the German Ambassador to Korea, Mr. Stephan Auer.

The first Session gave the Representatives, Christian Taaks of the Friedrich Namann Foundation, Dr. Bernhard Seliger of the Hanns Seidel Foundation and Mr. Stefan Samse of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation time to introduce their work and currents projects. Although each foundation has their own key-topics and focuses the work largely overlaps in the field of environmental protection.

After a Break the Panel Discussion started. The audience and the moderator, Ambassador Ahn Hoyoung, the President of the University of North Korean Studies, could ask specific questions to the three representatives. The audience was exceptionally interested in the speeches and the discussion continued for long.
