The Institute for Peace Affairs

In March 1983 the Institute for Peace Affairs was established for the purpose to support the process of Korean reunification. The institute is one of the most long-standing partners of the Hanns Seidel Foundation Korea – together they, among others, host the Tongil Hanguk Forum, which was established in 2015 and is being held several times a year. There various issues on reunification, current political events and changes are discussed.

Furthermore, the IPA publishes various journals and books, such as “The Unified Korea“, “The Korean Journal of Unification Affairs“, “History of Korean Unification Policies“, “Encyclopedia of North Korean Geography and Culture (Regional Information on North Korea)“, “German Unification and its Beyond”, “What we learn from German Unification”.

Besides its work as a publisher, the Institute of Peace Affairs hosts several events like the “Korean-German Workshop”, seminars like “Overseas Koreans Seminar“, and conferences such as the “Korea-China Conference“ and the “American Conference“, where experts come together to discuss important current events or future approaches. Additionally, researches on reunification as well as cooperation between both Korean states are included in the IPA’ s work.

According to the President of the IPA, Dr. Shin Yeong Seok, the work of the Institute can be compared to building a wall: brick after brick, towards reunification, which is unlikely to be achieved immediately.

The Hanns Seidel Foundation is going to continue to support the IPA in its efforts for the pursuit of the Korean reunification.
