The 19th Goseong Pollock Festival 2017

Alaska Pollock (Gadus chalcogrammus) is a marine fish species of the cod family and has been traditionally a main catch for fishermen at the Korean East coast. In particular Goseong has been a centre of the pollock industry; here, until today pollock is dried on wooden scaffolds in wintertime.

Unfortunately, overfishing reduced the number of pollock in Korea's East Sea dramatically and today, there are attempts to reintroduce the fish in South Korean waters.

To celebrate the role of pollock, each year Goseong, a partner of Hanns-Seidel-Foundation since 2005, stages the pollock festival. This year, the festival will take place from October 26 to 29 (see the attached programme).
