Textbook “Questions and Answers on Raising Tree Seedlings” – HSF Korea supports publication in the DPR Korea

The Hanns Seidel Foundation Korea works since several years on environmental issues in North Korea and tries to promote inner-Korean exchange, especially in the field of forestry. In the last 25 years, around 40 percent of the forest cover in North Korea disappeared. While there is now a shift towards a better understanding of the significance of healthy forests, there is still a lack of expertise of decision-makers and scientific knowledge.

To support a sustainable reforestation in North Korea, the Hanns Seidel Foundation Korea supported the publication of the textbook “Questions and Answers on Raising Tree Seedlings”. The publication answers questions related to raising seeds and seedlings. After a first introduction in chapter one, introducing basic knowledge about raising tree seeds and seedlings, the textbook continues with specific topics, such as seed germination, seed-sowing techniques and the transplantation of seedlings.

The publication was distributed to forestry-related institutes and to practitioners working at provincial tree nurseries in North Korea. The textbook will support the efforts on reforestation in North Korea, also in order to prevent further natural disaster caused by erosion and floods.
