Russia has always been an important actor on the Korean Peninsula. During his stay in Moscow, Dr. Bernhard Seliger (representative of Hanns Seidel Foundation Korea) met with his colleague Jan Dresel, representative of Hanns Seidel Foundation in Russia. He also visited the Federal Agency for Nationality Affairs of the Russian Federation.

In Russia, the Hanns Seidel Foundation carries out dialogue programs to increase mutual understanding of Russia and Germany, but also to increase cooperation in a number of topics, including business startups and development.

Meeting at the FADN

At the Federal Agency for Nationality Affairs of the Russian Federation (FADN), Dr. Seliger talked with Oleg Serjogin and Anna Polezhaeva about the Russian view of the current situation on the Korean Peninsula. Russia welcomes the recent inter-Korean thaw of relations and thinks that the North Korean participation in the Olympics, albeit with a small number of athletes, is an important step to further talks. While being in favor of denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, they think that sanctions alone will not achieve such a result.

The FADN gave a briefing on the status of Koreans living in Russia and FADN and Hanns Seidel Foundation also discussed possibilities of cooperation in the future.
