Sustainable and Peaceful Development of Hangang Estuary

As part of research into the sustainable and peaceful development of the Hangang Estuary, officials and civil society representatives took a boat trip on the Hangang River.

Hangang Estuary, which is also the border of North and South Korea in Gimpo area, has an important ecological function. Currently Gimpo city supports research and considers options for sustainable and peaceful use of the area, which had been heavily fortified in the past.

As part of that research, on the 1st of April a boat trip was taken by officials and representatives of civil society, among them Kim Young-Soo of Hanns-Seidel-Foundation Korea. the HSF currently carries out regular ecological surveys of the area.

While only the Southern part of the border area (around Siam wetland) is accessible due to the military situation at the border, there is hope to make it a more peaceful area in the future.
