Review of the International Conference on Rural Development in Qingzhou

The development of rural areas is a major contribution to the social development of a country.The question of differences and similiarities in the development of rural areas was elaborated in an international conference.

On April 13 and 14, 2016, a regional conference on rural development in Asia took place at the Qingzhou Education and Research Center for Land Consolidation and Rural Development. The conference consisted of excursions on case studies about the development of rural areas, which also included vocational training as an example of value added in rural areas.

The pilot project Nanzhanglou of the Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF) was an important example for comprehensive development of rural areas. Representatives from China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and South Korea participated in the conference. During a final workshop, requirements for the development of rural areas were developed. The process of a joint goal-setting is going to be continued in 2017 with another event, to which participants from Asian countries are invited.

The conference took place in cooperation with the China Land Survey and Planning Institute and the Land Consolidation and Rehabilitation Center of the Ministry of Land and Resources. Representatives of the Economic Department of the College of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China also attended the conference. Dr. Myoung-Ho Cho (Research Associate, Research Institute for Gangwon, Urban and Regional Development, South Korea) talked about the practice of rural development in Korea in his speech "Development Program for the Renewal of Rural Communities in Gangwon Province".
