Dr. Bernhard Seliger’s periodical article, ’30 Years After German Reunification’ published in JoongAng Sunday. This month, he wrote about East German company’s transition from socialism to a market economy. Success and failure of economic shift and the connection of business and politics in East Germany were discussed in the article. Dr.Seliger states that now it is more difficult to discuss outcome of unification in Korean peninsula as in market economy, people have to take responsibility for their own actions and fate.

On August 4, Hyeseon Do, Programme Officer, and Vivian Fu, Communications Officer, of EAAFP visited the HSF Korea Office and had a meeting with Dr. Seliger and other members of HSF Korea.
One topic of discussion was the EAAFP small grant programme in which HSF contributes with a Special Call on “Ecology in the Inner Korean Border Area.” Furthermore, the partners discussed the recent recognition of Korean Getbol as a UNESCO World Heritage site, which was strongly supported by both organizations.
HSF Korea supports the wetland conservation on the Korean Peninsula. On 26 August Dr Bernhard Seliger, Representative of HSF Korea and Dr Hyun-Ah Choi, Senior researcher of HSF Korea, attended the meeting to discuss future cooperation with similar habitats on the Korean Peninsula and in Northeast Asia organized by Hwaseong city. Experts from EAAPF and Birds Korea also participated in the meeting and shared ideas.
On 30 August, KINU organized the online roundtable to discuss DPRK’s Voluntary National Review (VNR) report on implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Dr Hyun-Ah Choi, Senior researcher of HSF Korea, attended this event and reviewed environmental targets – biodiversity, wetland, and forestry, and the effort of DPRK from 2015. She also suggested the direction of cooperation with the international community.
The team of HSF Korea - Dr. Bernhard Seliger, Mr. Young-Soo Kim, and Dr. Hyun-Ah Choi supported the habitat of cranes in Imjin River with the National Trust of Korea by participating in a ceremony to declare the settlement of the Imjin River Crane as a citizen's heritage.

Dr. Hyun-Ah Choi, Senior researcher of HSF Korea published a research paper with Dr. Kwan-ho Kim, Korea Rural Community Corporation in Review of North Korean Studies under the topic of North Korea’s Agricultural Policy and the Direction of Exchange and Cooperation in the Kim Jong Un Era (Korean, Abstract in English).
