Roundtable
Peace at the Han River Estuary

On July 27 Gimpo City invited experts to a roundtable event regarding the peaceful use of Han River Estuary. Dr Hyun-ah Choi, Senior Researcher of HSF Korea, took part et the event.

27 July marks 67 years since the Korean Armistice Agreement, the armistice that brought about a complete cessation of hostilities of the Korean War and established the 38th parallel as well as the demilitarized zone surrounding it. Around this area lies the Han River Estuary, an ecologically important and politically neutral zone where the use is allowed for both Koreas. However, the use of Han River Estuary has been restricted. In April 2019 Gimpo city organized the first boat survey, Jeollyu-ri Port to Siam wetland in the neutral zone for ecological monitoring and this year also organized the boat survey as part of the peaceful use of Han River Estuary. Due to weather conditions and political issues, this year's survey was postponed.

To mark the historical day of the Korean Armistice Agreement, the city of Gimpo invited experts and organized the roundtable to discuss the peaceful use of Han River Estuary. Dr Hyun-Ah Choi, Senior researcher of HSF Korea attended the roundtable and discussed the direction for the sustainable and peaceful use of the area.
