Ecological Perspectives and Design - Meeting with ECO Korea

On March 26, 2024, Dr. Hyun-Ah Choi, Senior Researcher, and Minjae Baek, Coordinator at Hanns Seidel Foundation Korea attended a lecture on Ecological Design by Dr. Dongwook Han and Dr. Eunjung Lee and had a meeting with them.

Paju Typography School is a design school (Baegeot) dedicated to humanistic value and spirit, free learning, and community values. Paju Typography School has been interacting with art-related organizations and artists in Korea and abroad, and has collaborated with the Bauhaus Foundation (Dessau), Hochschule für Gestaltung Offenbach am Main, and Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst Leipzig (HGB).

Students here are free to explore the world of creative design and ideas through diverse experiences and learning. Dr. Dongwook Han and Dr. Eunjung Lee have been teaching ecology lectures in the first semester of 2024, sharing their thoughts on sustainable design based on ecological knowledge with students.

Dr. Hyun-Ah Choi and Minjae Baek attended the lecture, interacted with the students, and experienced citizen science. This reminded a collective view of nature, which has been fading in modern society.

ECO Korea is a Korean non-governmental organization (NGO) actively working in various fields such as research, citizen science, and environmental education, and has been surveying endangered species in the border area ‘Janghang wetlands’. ECO Korea has collaborated continuously with the Hanns Seidel Foundation and has worked together at international meetings on issues of international cooperation for climate change and the conservation of ecosystems, flyways, and mangrove forests.

In the meeting, the current projects and plans were discussed and reviewed. Also, the ways to encourage peace and reconciliation on the Korean Peninsula through nature in the border area were envisioned.
