Internship
New Interns in the Summer of 2022

In the summer of 2022, HSF Korea welcomed three new interns. Students and graduates from various fields of study who are interested in inter-Korean collaboration and long-term environmental protection measures on the Korean Peninsula have had the opportunity to try new jobs and gain valuable experience.

The Hanns Seidel Foundation Korea (HSF) promotes and encourages interns to participate in its diverse activities and to take on various tasks during the internship. These include research and organizational tasks as well as participation in events to gain direct experience in the fields of environmental protection, inter-Korean cooperation, and development. Interns are given the opportunity to conduct research in their areas of interest and participate in relevant international activities during the internship. This gives them a real insight into international issues and enables them to enhance their skills. To help them settle into the working environment as quickly as possible, the team is always on hand to offer its expertise.

Since the beginning of July, Sabine Leykam has been supporting HSF Korea as a research intern and has had the opportunity to participate in the “Year of the Tern' World Seabird Day Webinar Series” and write a report on it. She also worked on the summary of the "International Symposium on Achieving Carbon-neutral and Sustainable Agri-food Systems through Building Partnership" of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Korea. David Straub joined HSF Korea in mid-July and has since focused on writing articles and, in collaboration with Sabine, on expanding a database on East Asian integration. He is also responsible for translations from English and German into Korean.

On August 1st, HSF Korea welcomed Hyukbin Eun. He is going to support David with translations from and into Korean. His first tasks included the summary of research papers regarding wetlands and their economic value, as well as the expansion of the database on East Asian integration.

In the coming months, the three will conduct research on relevant topics and participate in conferences to contribute to promoting HSF Korea's activities.

In addition to the on-site interns, Yoonseo Jung has been supporting the HSS as a student intern from her home office since the end of June.  She mainly has two main tasks: translating articles and organizing files. Translating the articles allowed several parties to communicate and convey the original intent of a message.

The internship lays a strong foundation for the future of our interns through new experiences and newly formed relationships.
