Nature in a Globalized World

On 28th April 2021, IUCN launched the new IUCN Flagship Report: Nature in a Globalized World-Conflict, and Conservation. HSF has contributed to the report.

HSF has been supporting the integration of North Korea into international efforts on nature conservation for many years. Ecosystems can serve as natural bridges for engagement and exchange, whereas humans are limited due to ideologies, beliefs, or politics. One of the long-standing supporters of the project on the "Wise Use of Wetlands of DPRK" has been the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN). On 28th April 2021, IUCN launched the new IUCN Flagship Report: “Nature in a Globalized World: Conflict and Conservation.” HSF has contributed to the report and shared article about “Transboundary Wetlands Conservation on the Korean Peninsula.”

With its two members from North Korea - namely the Nature Conservation of Union of Korea (NCUK, since 1965), and the Ministry of Land and Environment Protection (MoLEP, 2017) - IUCN has had a decade-long engagement on nature conservation in the country. The published report is the first issue of the IUCN Flagship report series "Nature in a Globalized World". The purpose of this report series is to help bring the importance of nature conservation into mainstream political and economic decision-making. The first issue focuses on armed conflict and nature.

HSF Korea has contributed to this report. An info box introduces "Transboundary wetlands conservation on the Korean Peninsula" and the work of HSF Korea and other international partners to raise awareness of the links between environmental protection, the improvement of the living conditions of the rural population, and sustainable development.
