Nature for Peace Forum 2022

The Ecosystem Services Partnership Asia organized the Nature for Peace Forum in early May.

On behalf of HSS Korea, Dr. Hyun-Ah Choi, Senior Researcher, participated in the Nature for Peace Forum on May 4. The forum was focused on sharing opinions regarding nature-based solutions for environmental cooperation, the practice of nature conservation, and sustainable development in Asia. Significantly, the invited experts shared the ideas for transboundary ecological cooperation between the two Koreas.

As part of this, Dr. Choi shared HSF Korea's work on this topic. She introduced the other participants to HSF’s pre-pandemic co-work with North Korea under the umbrella of international environment networks including the International Union for Conservation of Nature, United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, and Ramsar Regional Center - East Asia. Moreover, Dr. Choi highlighted that due to the prevailing COVID-19 restrictions in the past years, online lectures were held to keep on working together. Exemplary, HSF’s Green Growth lecture or international online meetings such as the Fifth Session of the United Nations Environment Assembly, Plenary, and National Statements in March 2022 were mentioned.
