Meetings in October 2023

In October 2023, Hanns Seidel Foundation Korea had numerous meetings within the range of multiple topics such as environmental protection.

Prof. Dr. Seliger met with Nadja Maria Schaffer, who currently studies in Seoul, strengthening mentorship under the German Korean Youth Network and leading an interesting exchange about living in Korea and the perception of Korea among young people.

 

Staff of HSF attended a reception hosted by the German Embassy to celebrate German Unity Day. The guest of honor of Ambassador-designate Georg Schmidt was Won Hee-ryong, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. A delegation of forest and agricultural experts from the Southwest German state of Baden-Wurttemberg led by Minister of Agricultural, Rural Areas and Consumer Protection Peter Hauk was also in attendance.

 

Dr. Choi published an article in the Gyeonggi Newspaper following her participation in the World Coastal Forum, highlighting the importance of harmony between people and nature.

 

HSF Korea and EcoKorea maintain a significant partnership involving joint surveys and collaborative efforts focused on the Han River Estuary. On October 20, a team from HSF Korea, including Ms. Sanghyo Moon, Ms. Minjae Baek, and Dr. Hyun-Ah Choi, met with EcoKorea representatives, Dr. Donguk Han and Ms. EunJung Lee, to discuss wetland protection on the Korean Peninsula and future initiatives. Notably, Ms. Moon's experience with EcoKorea's eco-education since the age of 7 has greatly influenced her current work at HSF Korea, particularly in the areas of SDGs, agriculture, and environmental issues.

 

UNESCO i-WSSM hosted the Future Water Security Forum on October 24 in Seoul, focusing on water security strategies for sustainable growth in low-income countries and capacity building. Dr. Hyun-Ah Choi, senior researcher at HSF Korea, shared Eco-Peace-Nexus approaches for the Korean Peninsula's shared river cooperation as an invited expert.
