In February, Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF) Korea ushered in the year of the tiger through meetings and publications conducive to forest conservation.

Prospects of Cooperation with Experts from the Korea Forest Service (KFS)

On 17 February, Dr. Byeong Oh Yoo, Dr.  Sun Keun Lee, Mr. Choon Han Lee, and Dr. Kyeong-Seok Park of the Korea Forest Service (KFS) visited HSF Korea to discuss prospects of future cooperation, specifically considering the XV World Forest Congress which will be held in May 2022. Furthermore, Ms. Anja Molek and Dr. Hyun-Ah Choi introduced HSF Korea’s current efforts and achievements in relation to forest conservation with the experts.

Meaningful Discussions with Gimpo City Officials

Gimpo City, located at the mouth of Hangang River to the northwest of Gyeonggi-do Province, has been actively collaborating with the Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF) at the Han River Estuary and along the West Sea since 2018. On 21 February, Mr. Jung-Ho Doo, director general for planning and financing, Ms. Hyo-Soon Kim, team leader for peace cooperation, and Mr. Min-Seok Chae, assistant deputy director of Gimpo City, visited HSF Korea to discuss possibilities for cooperation at the Han River Estuary with Dr. Bernhard Seliger and Dr. Hyun-Ah Choi at HSF Korea.

 

Sustainable Forest Management Approaches in DPRK with Cooperation

Dr Hyun-Ah Choi, Senior researcher at HSF Korea, published a research paper titled “Challenges of Forest Management for Achieving the Sustainable Forest Management in DPRK” in the Journal of East Asian Affairs, for Autumn/Winter 2021.

Inter-Korean Forest Cooperation in the Second Half of 2021

The Korea Forest Service (KFS) recently published the periodic synopsis titled "In-depth Look on Forest in North Korea”. This book outlines all the initiatives on Inter- Korean Forest Cooperation that have been carried out in the second half of 2021. In the section "Footsteps of Inter-Korean Forest Cooperation," you can get an insight into the work of the Hanns Seidel Foundation.
