Meetings and Events in September

In September there were other numerous appointments at the Hanns Seidel Foundation Korea. There were forums and meetings this months such as for reunification, Green Détente, environmental protection and inter-Korean coorperation.

Protection of Incheon tidal flat

On 6 September, the Incheon Council for Sustainable Development hosted a roundtable on exploring the sustainable strategies of Incheon tidal flats with experts. Dr Hyun-Ah Choi, Senior researcher at HSF Korea, participated in this roundtable as an invited speaker. She shared an idea of how we can use it and why we have to conserve the Incheon tidal flats. She also introduced the well-managed wetland cases. The participants agreed on the importance of tidal flats ecosystem for present and future generations and sustainable acts to conserve tidal flats.

DMZ Forum 2022

From September 16 to 17, the Gyeonggi DMZ Forum 2022 in KINTEX in Ilsan brought together policy makers, civil servants, academics and researchers under the motto "Green Détente Sprouting in DMZ". They debated ways to preserve the DMZ as natural heritage and valuable habitat and to use the DMZ as a starting point for inter-Korean reconciliation and cooperation. Dr. Bernhard Seliger, representative of the HSF Korea, took part as an invited speaker during the DMZ FORUM 2022 - Disasters and disaster management in North Korea –  the situation in 2022 and possibilities for North-South cooperation.

Jeju Forum for Peace & Prosperity 2022

From 14 to 16 September participants discussed the coexistence and cooperation beyond conflict and shared their insights for promoting peace via Green Detente on the Korean Peninsula and around the world. In particular, the impact of the Green Détente initiative and inter-Korean cooperation in border areas under the Yoon government were discussed. The speakers tried to identify pressing tasks and an implementation strategy of Green Detente. Prof. Tomasz Wierzbowski, HUFS, mentioned HSF’s activity in the field of environment as a successful case. Dr. Hyun-Ah Choi, HSF Korea, also attended this forum and shared her opinion with experts.

Research seminar

A research seminar on international development and social economy way for inter-Korean cooperation , organised by Song Kihun, Member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea and Academy of Northeast Asian Studies, Yeonsei University took place on September 30. The invited experts gave opinions based on their experience, such as the social enterprise activity cases – e.g. the Bridge’s impact donation activities, including supporting North Korean Defectors Entrepreneurs. Dr Hyun-Ah Choi, Senior HSF Korea researcher, also participated in this seminar as an invited expert. She explained HSF’s activities – biodiversity conservation on the Korean Peninsula related to ecotour as a source of social economy.
