Lessons learnt from the German Reunification

On October 22, 2018, a workshop took place in the Research Institute for Gangwon (RIG) on questions of German unification and actual cooperation between North and South Gangwon province. The workshop was opened by Dr. Dong-Han Yuk, President of the RIG. Dr. Alexander Wolf, representative of Hanns-Seidel-Foundation in Berlin, talked about the experience of East and West Berlin merging after unification. For Gangwon province, which is divided in a Northern and Southern half, this is a relevant topic.

On October 22, 2018, a workshop took place in the Research Institute for Gangwon (RIG) on questions of German unification and actual cooperation between North and South Gangwon province. The workshop was opened by Dr. Dong-Han Yuk, President of the RIG. Dr. Alexander Wolf, representative of Hanns-Seidel-Foundation in Berlin, talked about the experience of East and West Berlin merging after unification. For Gangwon province, which is divided in a Northern and Southern half, this is a relevant topic. Later Dr. Bernhard Seliger of HSF Korea spoke about the possibilities for North-South Gangwon cooperation in the fields of renewable energy (biogas) and afforestation. A lively discussion with members of RIG followed. HSF is a partner with RIG since 2006 and regularly carries out workshops with the RIG, the regional planning institute of Gangwon province. The joint interest is in particular in the sustainable development of the inner-Korean border area.
