Lectures and discussions at Ulsan University

The Ulsan University is an especially in technical areas strongly set university in the industrial and shipyard town Ulsan that is like Daegu and Seoul a province-free city with the status of a province (similar to German cities Hamburg, Bremen, Berlin).

Dr. Sung-Jo Park

In 2014 the University signed a MoU about cooperation with the Hanns Seidel Foundation. There, on September 13th 2017, Prof. Dr. Sung-Jo Park (em. Free University Berlin) and Dr. Bernhard Seliger (HSS Korea) gave special lectures. Prof. Park raised the question how the university will face the challenges of the fourth industrial revolution. While technical training and equipment are very important, an intellectual preparation, for example through interdisciplinary training and research, must be done as well. Dr. Seliger mentioned the continuously increasing tensions on the Korean Peninsula. There are good reasons to solve those with diplomatic measures, because military measures are most likely insufficient and very risky. Especially the yearlong isolation of North Korea requires the enablement of a reintegration of North Korea in international treaties and institutions in less politically sensitive areas. President Oh Jeon-Cheon promoted a closer cooperation with the Hanns Seidel Foundation.
