School Class Visits the Hanns Seidel Foundation Korea
HSF Korea Shares Experiences with High School Students

On November 3, a group of 16 students and their teacher from the Seoul Foreign Language High School visited Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF), Korea Office. The students, currently participating in a special voluntary program focused on “Reunification”, showed high interest in the Foundation and its work worldwide and in Korea.

After a short welcome, Felix Glenk, project manager for DPR Korea, introduced the work of the foundation and gave insights into the role and functions of German political party foundations and the work of HSF in more than 60 countries across the globe. The presentation then focused on the activities on the Korean peninsula, explaining why and how the foundation is trying to sustain a dialogue with North Korea through projects related to the environment. Two major projects focus on the conservation of biodiversity on the Korean Peninsula and along the East Asian-Australian Flyway and on reforestation in North Korea.

The Korean students participated actively in the follow-up questions-and-answers session. Special interest arose when it came to North Korea’s future and the further development of a Korean Reunification and its consequences.

Students asked to what extend decision-makers were aware of HSFs ultimate goals aiming at a reunification. Mr. Glenk explained that small steps need to be done to gain each partners’ trust.

The students showed high interest in the German Unification and the policies related to its achievement.

Moreover, they also wanted to know how the unique ecosystem of the DMZ should be protected after a reunification. An adequate regional planning would be the key factor for a sustainable balance between environment, economy and infrastructure.
