Seminar in Cheonan
Hannsi-Club and Hanns Seidel Foundation Korea

On Saturday, November 18, the annual meeting of the alumni association of Hanns Seidel Foundation in Korea “Hannsi Club”, took place at Dankook University Cheonan campus. The secretary-general of the alumni association “Hannsi Club”, Prof. Dr. Kim Dong-Uk, professor at Dankook University, opened the conference, followed by a welcoming speech by the president of Hannsi Club, Prof. Dr. So Jae-Son of Kyunghee University. On behalf of Hanns Seidel Foundation, Dr. Choi Hyun-Ah, senior researcher, was present.

The first presentation on "Agricultural cooperatives in Germany" was held by Prof. Dr. Irma Rybnikova, who as on a lecture trip organized by Hanns Seidel Foundation in Korea. The second presentation, on the situation of North Koreans in South Korea, was held by Suh Kyung-Hwa, a protestant minister. The discussion was led by Prof. Dr. Kim Bo-Han, historian at Dankook University, as well as Prof. Dr. Kim Dong-Uk of Hannsi-Club.

Scholarships

For the last 30 years, students from South Korea have studied in Germany with a scholarship of Hanns Seidel Foundation in fields as vastly different as law, economics and business, agriculture, German language, landscape architecture or geography.

In the last decade, in particular graduate students have been selected with a strong interest in issues of preparation for Korean unification.

Since 2004, also a limited number of North Korean students has studied in the fields of business administration, medical science and forestry in Germany with support from Hanns Seidel Foundation.
