On September 28, 2018, Dr. Bernhard Seliger and Kim Young-Soo of Hanns-Seidel-Foundation Korea met with Lee Kyong-il, the newly elected county chief of Goseong County, Gangwon province. During the meeting, they explained about the current projects of HSF to promote inter-Korean cooperation and sustainable development of the inner-Korean border area. For two years, HSF together with Birds Korea has carried out a survey of seabirds in North and South Goseong. Goseong is a county divided between North and South. Both sides qualify as “Bird areas of international importance” (so-called IBA) according to criteria of Birdlife International, and recently HSF and Birds Korea proposed to include the area in the list of IBA. HSF and Goseong county since 2005 cooperate for the sustainable development in the inner-Korean border area.

Also, a meeting with the new director of the Gangwon DMZ museum, Rhee Won-Chan, took place in the Gangwon DMZ Museum directly beside the DMZ. HSF cooperates with the Gangwon DMZ Museum for many years and helped create partnerships with the German-German museum Moedlareuth and Point Alpha foundation, both museums at the former inner-German border. In October, a permanent exhibition on the former inner-German border will be opened at the Gangwon DMZ museum with a small conference bringing together local politicians from Germany and Korea, as well as museum curators.
