In June, Hanns Seidel Foundation had various meetings regarding South-North Korean cooperation, Ramsar Convention, and wetland conservation.

Seoul Metropolitan Council Roundtable

Dr.Bernhard Seliger, the representative of Hanns Seidel Foundation, and Young-Soo Kim, the Project Manager of HSS Korea met with Hwang In-Gu Seoul Metropolitan Government councilor and sought exchanges between the Seoul Metropolitan Council, Hanns Seidel Foundation Korea, and the University of Seoul. During the meeting, talks were held on a plan to link the activities of the Institute of Seoul Studies, Hanns Seidel Foundation, and Seoul Metropolitan council to increase Seoul-Pyeongyang exchanges.

Kia Tigers World Wetlands Day Event

Since 2017, the Ramsar Regional Center – East Asia (RRC-EA) was cooperating with the baseball team of the KIA Tigers. On the occasion of World Wetlands Day (WWD), the team produces special jerseys that show the logo “I Love Wetlands” or “I Love Ramsar” and wear it at one of their baseball games. The advertisement refers to WWD, and the video shows also present WWD as the special theme of the game. On 6 May Dr. Bernhard Seliger, the representative of HSF Korea was invited to open the game by hitting the opening ball of the game. The game was meant to promote the WWD, the Ramsar Convention, and the awareness for wetland conservation on the Korean Peninsula and in Northeast Asia.

 

2021 Inter-Korean Cultural Heritage Policy Forum

2021 Inter-Korean Cultural Heritage Policy Forum was held on 24 June organized by Gangwon-do, Gyeonggi-do, and Cultural Heritage Administration. The forum, launched in 2019, is an advisory body for the expansion of inter-Korean cultural property exchange and cooperation. At this year’s forum, the main topic is a strategic plan for inter-Korean cooperation in the field of cultural and natural heritage. Dr. Hyun-Ah Choi, Senior researcher of HSF Korea participated in the forum as a member of the advisory committee.

 

The 3rd Roundtable on Peace and Medical Cooperation Among Paju, Gimpo, and Goyang city, Northwestern Part of Gyeonggi-do

The 3rd roundtable on peace and medical cooperation among Paju, Gimpo, and Goyang city, northwestern part of Gyeonggi-do was held on 28 June hosted by National Cancer Center. Dr. Hyun-Ah Choi, Senior researcher of HSF Korea participated as an expert. The participants shared cooperation agenda in the northwestern part of Gyeonggi-do.

 

Meeting with Institute of Peace Affairs

On 30 June HSF Korea had a meeting with the Institute of Peace Affairs (IPA), to discuss recent peace cooperation and Korean Peninsula issues. HSF Korea and IPA will organize Unified Korea (Tongil-Hankook) Forum in July.
