The 2018 Ecosystem Services Partnership (ESP) Asia Conference took place form 9 to12 October 2018 in Dehradun, India organized by Wildlife Institute of India (WII) and ESP Asia Regional Office (RO). The main theme is Communication and Engaging Ecosystem Services in Policy and Practice in Asia.

The 2018 Ecosystem Services Partnership (ESP) Asia Conference took place form 9 to12 October 2018 in Dehradun, India organized by Wildlife Institute of India (WII) and ESP Asia Regional Office (RO). The main theme is Communication and Engaging Ecosystem Services in Policy and Practice in Asia. Participants shared the idea, knowledge and integrating ecosystem services approaches, and scientific results during the period. There were 14 sessions included Inter-government meeting and Asia Forum, 61 presentations and 12 posters.

Dr Vinod B. Mathur (Director of WII) gave an opening remarks and Prof de Groot (Chairperson of ESP) gave welcome remarks to cingulate the 2nd ESP Asia Regional Conference and welcome to participants. The Chief Guest gave special address relating to ES. The first day Mr Shri Vinay Sheel Oberoi (Former Permanent Representative of India to INESCO) did presentation about the role of Ecosystem Services in the communication and management of UNESCO protected area. The second day Mr Pavan Sukhdev (Leader of TEEB study and now President of WWF International) gave a special lecture and had talk show with participants to discuss and share his experience. the third day had ESP Asia plenary discussion and closing the conference. The theme was "Ecosystem Services, the Way Forward in Asia". Before the overviews of sessions outcomes Mr Madhav b. Karki gave keynote speech – State of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services in Asia-Pacific. He emphasized that it needs to fill the gap between knowledge and capacity and share the good practice to protect biodiversity. After Mr Karki’s speech, the panelists overviewed the way forward on ES and ESP in Asia. However, we still have some questions such as how can ES support conservation; and how engage with policy-makers?

To share the ecosystem services strategy at national level and practice of nature conservation and sustainable development in Asia the ESP Asia Intergovernmental Meeting was held on 9 October. The delegation of DPRK, ROK, Vietnam, Philippines, Nepal, and India attended meeting and gave overview on ES policy and practice. Especially, the DPRK delegation shared their experience relating to ecosystem services in wetland included 2 cases – Mundok and Rason wetland.

After meeting, the delegation attended the ESP Asia Forum to discuss future collaboration on 10 October. Also, Dr Hyun-Ah Choi (Senior researcher of HSF Korea) attended and did oral presentation about the ecosystem services assessment for supporting natural resources management – the South Korea case study on 9 October 2018.
