Delegation of the HSF und MP Hartmut Koschyk Visit South Korea

The situation on the Korean Peninsula is very serious - the development of the North Korean nuclear weapon program is aggravated by the insecurity about American politics. In this difficult situation, in context of the 30th anniversary of the work of the Hanns Seidel Foundation in Korea, Dr. Peter Witterauf, Secretary General of HSF, together with Dr. Susanne Luther, Director of the Institute for International Cooperation (IIC) of the foundation, and Willi Lange, head of the Northeast Asia department of Hanns Seidel Foundation, met for political discussions.

In a meeting with Prof. Dr. So Jae-Soon (Kyunghee University) and Prof. Dr. Kim Dong-Wook (Dankook University), President and Secretary General of the Alunmni-Association of the HSF Korea, challenges of education policies and the challenges of the work in North Korea were discussed.

Another meeting together with Hartmut Koschyk, Member of the Bundestag and Head of the German-Korean Parliamentary Group, HSF and Nam Kyung-Pil, Governor of the Gyeonggi Province, one of the most important Korean politicians, took place. An intensified political and economic cooperation between Bavaria and the Gyeonggi Province was debated.

Dr. Witterauf, Dr. Luther and Hartmut Koschyk also met with the most important delegates of the National Assembly, Choung Byoung-goug and Hong Il-Pyo. Topics discussed were political changes in South Korea during the most recent years, and the tensions on the Korean Peninsula.

At the invitation of the German Ambassador to the Republic of Korea Stephan Auer a meeting with Prof. Dr. Kim Chung-In, a leading politician in times of democratization and who is responsible for important advices for the reform of the constitution and politics, under all as a delegate, minister, and party chairman, was conducted at the German Embassy.
