Birds watching with guests from the IUCN and the University of Tulsa

On April 3rd 2024, Dr. Bernhard Seliger, Dr. Hyun-Ah Choi (Birds Korea, Hanns Seidel Foundation) and Minjae Baek (Hanns Seidel Foundation) met with Dr. Mimi Kessler from the IUCN and Prof. Matthew Toomey from the University of Tulsa. The purpose of the meeting was to conduct a survey in the Han Estuary from Yudo to Siam and to exchange experience on international birds’ conservation with our guests.

The first part of the survey took place in the areas of Musunsanseong (close to Gangwha island) to Yudo islet and Chogangri wetland. The first area showed a nice variety of birds, while the Chogangri wetlands were barely populated by birds on that day in addition to construction taking place in the area.  The Siam wetlands and surrounding again featured more birds, including an Eagle Owl and several different duck species.

During the meeting The IUCN and Hanns Seidel Foundation, Korea used the opportunity to share activities related to wetlands and biodiversity conservation in the Korean border area.
