Cooperation for bee protection

Representatives of the Embassy of Slovenia, Korean Rural Community Cooperation and Hanns Seidel Foundation Korea Office met yesterday to emphasize the importance of beekeeping and launch a remarkable bee conservation project.

Yesterday, the Embassy of Slovenia, the Korean Rural Community Cooperation, the Campaign Manager for Bee Saving of the Korea Honey Bee Saving Campaign Network, and the Hanns Seidel Foundation Seoul Office met in Yangyang, Gangwon-do to launch a project on bee conservation.

The joint meeting focused on highlighting the important role of beekeeping in today's world, emphasizing the importance of urban and professional beekeepers alike, and the need for harmonious coexistence. Bees, as pollinators, are essential to human existence and an important indicator of the overall health of our environment.

During the meeting, several topics related to the benefits of bees were on the agenda. Urban gardens on rooftops could bring bees back to cities, and other multi-party collaborations could be the start of several new beekeeping initiatives. These include innovative concepts such as bee hotels and bee meditations, and most importantly, the success of beekeeping in promoting the mental and physical well-being for the human being was emphasized.

An ambitious two-year plan was presented at the meeting: the creation of a bee-friendly forest. Also, a one-hectare area will be sown with yellow rapeseed flowers and 30 small trees will be planted. These "Honeybee Trees" (also Bee-Bee Trees, Korean: 쉬나무 shwi-namu), generously provided by Tree Planet, will serve not only as a haven for bees, but also as a place where people can rest and recharge.

At the meeting, the trees were ceremonially planted. Plans are already underway for another meeting in the spring, when more trees will be planted and the canola flowers, which will be planted next March, will be in full bloom.  In conclusion, the enthusiasm for future collaborations to preserve and revitalize our bee populations is palpable to ensure the sustainability of our environment for generations to come.
