BBC Newsday Interview with Dr. Seliger

Dr. Seliger was interviewed by BBC World Service in the segment Newsday. In the Interview, he outlined how HSF Korea can as a German Foundation make a difference and collaborate with North Korea on environmental issues and address climate change.

In this interview with BBC World Service in the segment Newsday, Dr. Seliger offers an insight into the Foundations work. He explains how Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF) Korea works with its North Korean Partners on afforestation and climate change and provides an overview of how cooperation is possible despite the current pandemic and North Korea's subsequent complete isolation.

 

He elaborated on how the pandemic complicated collaborations with North Korea, but at the same time beheld new opportunities. For when North Korea shut its boarders, HSF Korea launched online Zoom meetings with its partner organizations and continued its inter-Korean projects. By using online conferences, it was furthermore possible to include experts from all over the world in discussing environmental topics that the North Korean counterparties were inquiring about.

 

 

At the end of the interview, Dr. Seliger gave a quick outlook on how collaborations will continue in the next few years. He explained how the Covid-19 pandemic will probably be an obstacle in the years to come and experts will not be able to enter the country for a while longer. Nevertheless, Dr. Seliger is eager to be able to get experts to North Korea and work on the issues in the field as soon as the country eases its restrictions.
