Besides the projects which HSF hosted independently and in collaboration with its partners, the Hanns Seidel Foundation in Korea also attended external events in November, including the ARC Conference 2022 Water–Food–Energy Nexus in Ecosystems and the 2022 DMZ International Forum.

3. November. ARC Conference 2022 Water–Food–Energy Nexus in Ecosystems

Proceedings of the ARC Conferenve 2022 Water-Food-Energy Nexus in Ecosystems has provided a resilience scientific opportunity to respond to the complex challenges of socio-ecological change. Resilience experts at home and abroad gathered in person at Korea University and virtually to have an in-depth discussion on their research topics and regional efforts dealing with global social-ecological issues including climate change and ecosystem changes. HSF researcher Mieke Krupp participated in the event.

 

The first session was about “Implications of land use and climate change for management of water-forest nexus” and featured speakers from different institutions such as Korea University, University of Bonn, and United Nations University. This session gathered the expertise in (agro)forestry, hydrology, and integrated modeling to offer some insights into this nexus by discussing an interdisciplinary approach and presenting modeling-based studies in various climatic regions. The second session focused on resilience research and featured the speakers from Korea University, the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis of Austria, Nazarbayev University.

4.November 2022 DMZ International Forum

On November 4, 2022, the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP) and the National Research Council for Economics, Humanities, and Social Sciences (NRC) hosted ‘2022 DMZ International Forum’ in Incheon, Republic of Korea. At the Forum, discussions on “Peace on the Korean Peninsula and International Cooperation in the Era of Great Transformation and Economic Security” were held during two sessions which the HSF representatives Rebecca Reinecke and Nastassja Amling attended. The 2022 DMZ International Forum functioned as a platform to discuss newly rising economic security issues and existing security issues, rooted in the division between South and North Korea in line with various policies led by the Korean government. Various international experts in the field participated on-site and online and gave their personal opinions on the discussed topics.
