3rd Mid-latitude R/D workshop held at Korea University

On 17 March 2016 the 3rd IIASA-KU workshop for Mid-Latitude R/D workshop took place at Korea University Hana Square, jointly organized by Korea University and the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) from Vienna, Austria. This workshop explored the framework for climate change mitigation, adaptation, and sustainable development in temperate (mid-latitude) regions. Profl Woo-Kyun Lee of Korea University as well as Prof. Pavel Kabat, Prof. Chin-Min Lee, Dr. Florian Kraxner and Dr. Anatoly Shvidenko of IIASA presented on their work together with other renowned experts.

A Young Scholar Committee and international experts from various institutes such as United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change Research (APN), Regional Environmental Center Central Asia discussed about climate change adaptation and mitigation for Mid-Latitude ecotone. Also, Kim Ju-Young of the EU-Delegation to Korea presented on possibilities for research promotion under the EU Horizon 2020 programme. 

Dr. Bernhard Seliger from Hanns Seidel Foundation Korea Office, explained how the environmental projects of Hanns-Seidel-Foundation in North Korea can contribute to climate change mitigation. Among others, Hanns-Seidel-Foundation has been active in renewable energy, biodiversity and forest projects in North Korea. 

In May 2015, at Korea University the 1st international workshop for Mid-Latitude in Seoul took place, at which an international R/D Network for Mid-Latitude as well as Korean Industry & Academy Cooperation for Mid-Latitude R/D Initiative were unveiled. Through the side event (2nd Mid-Latitude workshop) at Korea Pavilion of COP21 in 2015, Paris, they shared ideas for climate change and spatial resilience across the Mid-Latitudes.
