2022 Korean-German Unification Forum 1st <Unification Academy>

On July 1st, the Unification Academy hosted by the Hanns Seidel Foundation and the Korea Institute for Peace and Cooperation was held at the Korean Press Center. This academy has great significance in promoting overall unification by instilling awareness of Korean unification in students from Jeju and suggesting what things should be done for unification. Hanns Seidel Foundation senior researcher Dr. Hyun-Ah Choi and intern researcher Helena attended the forum to help organize the forum and conduct a survey.

In the first session, a keynote speech entitled “Peace and Unification on the Korean Peninsula” by Dr. Ki-woong Son, President of the Korea Institute for Peace and Cooperation, and a video congratulatory message from Dr. Bernhard Seliger, representative of the Korea Office of the Hanns Seidel Foundation, was delivered. Afterwards, there was also a congratulatory speech by former Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn. In the second session, an insightful presentation by Dr. Seong-Jun Ko of the Jeju Institute for Unification and Future and Professor Gwan-Yong Koh of Jeju Halla University followed an active discussion with students. The students had time to learn more about the importance of unification in the process of presenting their opinions and raising questions about unification. As such, this academy is constantly striving to promote the unification of the Korean Peninsula by providing experts and students from various fields with an opportunity to learn more about inter-Korean unification.
