10 years ago, in 2007, the Institute for Peace and Unification Stuides (IPUS) at Seoul National University was founded. Hanns Seidel Foundation Korea cooperated with SNU already since 2005 in the field of unification studies, and from the beginning of the new institute was partnering with the institution.

Opening remarks by Prof. Park Myoung-Kyu, head of IPUS since 2007

The Institute for Peace and Unification Studies (IPUS) at Seoul National University envisions peace studies as a twenty-first century multidisciplinary discourse. IPUS concentrates on three dimensions: peace through inter-Korean reconciliation, peace through the promotion of cultural and human rights, and peace through ecological civilization. Research, conferences, and unification education courses with students are among the main activities of the center.

On April 19, 2016, IPUS celebrated its 10th anniversary with high-ranking guests like the Executive Vice President of the National Unification Advisory Council, Prof. Yoo Ho-Yeol, the Minister of Unification Hong Yong-Pyo, the current President of SNU, Sung Nak-In, as well as former president Chung Un-Chan. Also, several former unification ministers and state secretaries, well-known researchers and professors joined the celebrations, together with Dr. Bernhard Seliger of Hanns Seidel Foundation. From the beginning of the institute, Prof. Park Myoung-Kyu lead the successful IPUS.
