Meetings in January

In January, meetings were scheduled regarding the Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF) Korea. The topics of these meetings ranged on environmental issues.

On 7 January 2025, Dr. HyeJin Kim, Senior Scenario Developer at the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology, visited HSF Korea to discuss the Korean Nature Futures. Dr Kim specializes in systems analysis, integrating land use, biodiversity, climate, and well-being modelling for the Korean Peninsula. During the meeting, Dr Bernhard Seliger and Dr Hyun-Ah Choi provided insights into the current state of biodiversity on the Korean Peninsula, contributing valuable context to the discussion.

On January 27th 2025, Dr. Bernhard Seliger had an interesting talk with Prof. Hans Joachim Schellnhuber, Director General of the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis in Laxenburg by Vienna. Prof. Schellnhuber, a leading researcher on climate change, heads the IIASA, which itself was founded in the Cold War times to bring scientists from East and West together. The meeting was made possible thanks to Dr. Florian Kraxner at IIASA, which maintains good relations to Korea University in Seoul. Hopefully, in the future we can cooperate on climate change adaptation and mitigation on the Korean Peninsula. Thank you so much, Prof. Schellnhuber and Dr Kraxner!
