On September 2, 2024, the 9th Korea- German Reunification Forum was held at the Korea Press Center in Seoul, Korea, jointly organized by the Korea Institute for Peace and Cooperation and the Hanns Seidel Foundation, in collaboration with Skydaily, which celebrated its 13th anniversary this year. The 2024 Korea-German Reunification Forum was held under the title “How to navigate the turbulent world situation”.
The forum was attended by participants from the Korea Institute for Peace and Cooperation (Prof. Kiwoong Son, President) and the Hanns Seidel Foundation (Rebecca Reinecke, Project Manager at HSF Korea).
The forum addressed the turbulent current global political situation, considering the numerous crisis hotspots that challenge the stability of the world order. In this context, political and military tensions in the Indo-Pacific, which continuously threaten peace in the region, were also discussed. The role of political alliances was particularly emphasized, with the U.S. elections serving as a key thematic focus of the discussion.
Starting with the opening ceremony by Kim Young-taek, Vice President of the Korean Institute for Peace and Cooperation, the first session was held under the title “Turbulent World Situation, U.S., Japan, China, and Russia's Interests and Korea's Response,” moderated by Professor Son Ki-woong. The panellists included Professor Risotetsu, Department of Sociology, Ryukoku University, Kyoto, Japan; Dong-Joo Seo, President, Eurasia Policy Institute; Yoon-Young Cho, Professor, Department of Political Science and International Studies, Chung-Ang University, Korea; and Yang Rong-Fan Ji, Director, Institute of State and Regional Studies, Tianjin Foreign Studies University, China.
The second session was moderated by Yoo Pan-duk, Senior Vice President of the Korea Institute for Peace and Cooperation, and all participants participated in a panel discussion.

Das Forum befasste sich mit der turbulenten, aktuellen weltpolitischen Lage angesichts der zahlreichen Krisenherde, die die Stabilität der Weltordnung in Frage stellen. In diesem Zusammenhang wurden auch die politischen und militärischen Spannungen im indo-pazifischen Raum diskutiert, die den Frieden in der Region immer wieder bedrohen. Besonders die Rolle politischer Allianzen wurde hier hervorgehoben, wobei vor allem die Wahlen in den USA einen wichtigen thematischen Schwerpunkt der Diskussion darstellten.
Nach der feierlichen Eröffnung durch Kim Young-taek, Vizepräsident des Koreanischen Instituts für Frieden und Zusammenarbeit, fand die erste Sitzung unter dem Titel „Turbulente Weltlage, die Interessen der USA, Japans, Chinas und Russlands und Koreas Antwort“ statt, die von Professor Son Ki-woong moderiert wurde. Zu den Diskussionsteilnehmern gehörten Professor Risotetsu, Fachbereich Soziologie, Ryukoku Universität, Kyoto, Japan; Dong-Joo Seo, Präsident, Eurasia Policy Institute; Yoon-Young Cho, Professor, Fachbereich Politikwissenschaft und Internationale Studien, Chung-Ang Universität, Korea; und Yang Rong-Fan Ji, Direktor, Institut für Staats- und Regionalstudien, Tianjin Universität für Auslandsstudien, China.
