Seminar
International Cooperation for Mid-Latitude Region

On January 13, the OJeong Resilience Institute (OJERI) at Korea University hosted an engaging lecture series focused on climate resilience and sustainable development. Prof. Dr. Woo-Kyun Lee of Korea University warmly welcomed the participants from the Hanns Seidel Foundation.

The event brought together international experts to discuss innovative approaches to tackling global climate challenges, particularly in the mid-latitude region.

Among the presentations, Dr. Bernhard Seliger, the resident representative of Hanns Seidel Foundation Korea, delivered a lecture on “Climate Change and Biodiversity in the Third Pole.” He explored climate change and biodiversity in the Himalayan region, also known as the "Third Pole." Dr. Seliger highlighted the region’s rich biodiversity and its unique challenges, from glacier retreat to invasive species. He emphasized the need for cross-border cooperation, advanced research, and sustainable policies to protect this vital ecosystem.

The lecture series also featured discussions on pioneering projects like the Carbon Neutral Village initiative in Nepal and efforts to build climate resilience through the Van-KIRAP program. These presentations underscored the importance of global collaboration and local action in addressing the urgent threats of climate change.

A special thanks to Prof. Dr. Lee and his team, for organizing this platform and dialogue on climate solutions. Events like these highlight the power of collective knowledge and action in building a sustainable future.
