Korean-German Economy Forum in Goyang

On October 31, 2024, the Hanns Seidel Foundation participated in the German-Korean Economy Forum, hosted by the City of Goyang and the Goyang Research Institute. The forum gathered representatives from local and German organizations, institutes, and businesses to share insights and experiences on the theme “Strategy Development for Global Economic Growth in the City of Goyang.”

The event featured an opening ceremony, a series of presentations, and a concluding panel discussion. During the opening ceremony, the German Ambassador to Korea, Georg Schmidt, and Goyang’s mayor, Dong-Hwan Lee, among others, delivered congratulatory remarks. This was followed by a series of presentations: Dr. Martin Henkelmann, president of the Korean-German Chamber of Commerce & Industry, discussed the new partnership for economic innovation between Germany and Korea, with a particular focus on Goyang.

Next, Dr. Young-Woo Kim, Head of Research at the National Cancer Center Korea, explored Goyang’s potential to become a global biomedical hub. Finally, Dr. Bernhard Seliger from the Hanns Seidel Foundation Korea shared measures to strengthen cooperation between Germany and Goyang. The forum concluded with a panel discussion featuring representatives from local businesses and institutes.

The Hanns Seidel Foundation Korea worked closely with the Goyang Research Institute to ensure a productive exchange during the forum and support the development of a thriving economic partnership between Germany and the City of Goyang. In South Korea, the Hanns Seidel Foundation cooperates with the provinces and cities on the inter-Korean border in projects for sustainable development and overcoming the division.
