The EU-Korea Young Scholars’ Workshop

The EU-Korea Young Scholars’ Workshop took place on June 4th, 2021 at Korea University. The event started at 14:00 KST, and experts on the topic of various topics, particularly European and international studies, convened to present their knowledge and discuss.

Hanns-Seidel Foundation was one of the organizers of the workshop among EURAXESS Korea, Institute of EU Studies at HUFS, JM EU Centre of Excellence at KU, KU Nordic-Benelux Centre, and the Korean Society of Contemporary European Studies. Director Kim Young Soo, Senior Researcher Choi Hyun-Ah, and Researcher Choi Haan from Hanns Seidel Foundation participated in the event. The plenary session began with an opening address session, and Director Kim Young Soo gave an opening remark as a representative of HSF Korea. The opening session was proceeded with two sessions, each consisting of two panels.

Hanns Seidel Foundation members attended Panel 1 “S&T cooperation on the Korean Peninsula – ways to include North Korea into EU-Korea S&T cooperation.” Dr. Choi Hyun-Ah presented on her topic “European science transfer in the case of forestry (focusing on North Korea)” in this panel. She highlighted the foundation’s efforts on wetlands and environmental preservation, and further emphasized the role forestry cooperation can play on inter-Korean relations. Each panel concluded with a short discussion session.

Through this workshop, participants could deepen their perspective on EU-Korean relations. The same workshop is planned to proceed again this upcoming October.
