HSF-GMUK PACSC Asia Workshop

On 21 April, 2021, the George Mason University PACSC Asia and Hanns Seidel Foundation organizes a workshop ‘Conflict analysis and Resolution Approach to Inter-Korean Cooperation: From Lessons Learned to Dynamic and hybrid Cooperative Efforts.’

Based upon the initial success and enthusiasm from the 2020 Hanns Seidel Foundation Korea - PACSC Asia Problem-Solving Workshop, both organizations feel it is necessary to continue the progress already made in order to promote more effective inter-Korean cooperation utilizing a conflict analysis and resolution (CAR) lens. To do so, both organizations will host a series of two problem-solving workshops in 2021 to highlight the lessons learned from previous collaborative projects. Both organizations believe this work will help to facilitate future peaceful democratization in North Korea and sustainable, green, and environmentally friendly development of the Korean Peninsula.

The first workshop in 2021 titled, From Lessons Learned to Dynamic and Hybrid Cooperative Efforts, will further develop the key takeaways from the 2020 problem-solving workshop. Specifically, during this workshop, experts from PACSC Asia and the HSF Korea along with invited guests will explore practical CAR concepts that are critical in improving the efficacy of ongoing projects and future initiatives on the Korean Peninsula. Some of the skills and concepts to be discussed include intercultural communication, facilitation and mediation skills, and the need to look at the “human needs” as they pertain to the Korean context, and program evaluation. Providing these key skills to stakeholders will be substantial as these areas were identified as some of the greatest stumbling blocks to sustainable development and democratization initiatives when cooperating with North Korea in the past.

The workshop will take place on April 21st 9:30 am to 16:00 pm KST at the Incheon Global Campus, Songdo. The workshop will be held offline and there are limited seats are available.
