Webinar
Forest as a Protection against Drought

On October 25, HSF Korea jointly organized the third collaborative seminar on the topic of “Drought Monitoring and Forest: Research and Practice” together with the OJEong Resilience Institute (OJERI) at Korea University and the Mid-Latitude Region Network (MLRN).

Bare and eroded mountain slopes and hills are characteristic for the landscape of North Korea and indicative of the lack of food and energy of the population. The disappearance of almost 40% of North Korea’s Forest area has led to reforestation being declared a state goal in the recent years. Forests are now also perceived as a natural protection measure against floods, crop loss, and famine.

The OJERI-MLRN-HSF Korea Webinar Series aimed specifically at allowing young scientists in the field of drought monitoring and forest to share their research and to encourage meaningful debate on the topic. Ms. Anja Molek of Hanns Seidel Foundation Korea participated as a speaker and introduced HSF’s forest project and forest cooperation in North Korea.
